I first encountered spiritual direction in seminary during a difficult season in my spiritual life. My professor, who is also a spiritual director, led a devotional practice on being beloved by God. In that moment, I sensed that God was speaking to me through her, reminding me that He had not abandoned me. Even in my disappointment and doubt, He saw me and loved me. That experience became a turning point in my return to Him and showed me the gift of spiritual direction.

I have often tried hard to do everything right, but I have been learning to live from grace instead. I am learning to trust that God loves me as I am and has created me with purpose. Part of that purpose is walking alongside others in their faith journeys.

Several years ago, God opened the door for me to return to spiritual direction, and I pursued training to become a certified spiritual director. My hope is to listen well to both the Holy Spirit and the people I meet with, as we pay attention together to what God is doing. I am not the expert in the room; the Holy Spirit is.
